Exercise: Form and Movement in a Clothed Figure

Ask your model to wear some soft fabrics that will help to describe the form of their body.  This could be a shawl, a long scarf, baggy jumper, full skirt or dressing gown.

I had no model available this time other than myself, so using a full length mirror I set myself in a few poses and made some warm up sketches in pen.  After deciding which pose and media to use, I drew the longer pose in coloured pencil. Full notes are shown in the photograph and in the Check & Log for this project.

  1. Good approach knocking back the underdrawing – I’m going to try that. The anatomy comes through well in the drawing – neck muscles, collar bone, shin etc. have you thought about part 5 yet – which option you might tend towards?
